Access to Information

How to obtain personal information or an institutional document from the Commissaire à la déontologie policière?

1. Check out our Distribution of information and Publications sections

In accordance with the Regulation respecting the distribution of information and the protection of personal information, several documents are available on our website. If you are looking for an institutional document, it could be found in one of these sections.

2. Make sure that the document or information you are looking for comes from the Commissaire à la déontologie policière

If you are looking for a document such as a police report, a calling card, an audio recording of a 9-1-1 call or an audio recording of police radio, we are not the organization holding this information. We suggest that you make your request to the access to information officer of the police organization concerned.

3. Make an access to information request

If you cannot find the information or document you are looking for, you can send us an access to information request. This request can be made by telephone or in writing. However, it is only possible to appeal the decision of our Commissioner to the Commission d'accès à l'information if the request has been made in writing. The best way to do your request is to use our online form, but you can also download, print and send us by mail this Access to information request paper form.

Be specific so that we can find the document you are looking for. We can also help you formulate your request if necessary.

4. Wait for our reply

We must respond to your request within 20 days. This period may be extended by 10 days if necessary, by notifying you in writing.

Under the grounds set out in the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, the Commissaire à la déontologie policière may refuse to confirm the existence of information contained in a document or deny access in whole or in part to certain documents.
